Labor Day means chili – and now pie!

If the chili isn’t enough to get you out to this year’s Chili Cook-Off, maybe the addition of a new pie-eating contest will bring you out.

The annual Cook-Off, not exactly a low-cal event, will be held, rain or shine, Labor Day, September 3, from 4-7 pm at the same site where it has been located for decades – Lyon Park, which is at the corner of Pershing Drive and North Fillmore St.

Join fellow Arlington Democrats for some friendly competition and see which of our chefs will take home the title of Chili Chef Supreme. There will be veggie chilis, moderate chilis, hot chilis and everything you can image—more than a dozen varieties.

Hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers and other picnic fare will also be provided, not to mention iced drinks to cool the post-chili tongue.

New this year, the Cook-Off will feature a pie-eating contest among the electeds, ACDC leadership, and other familiar faces. And, you, too, can enter and win!

The Cook-Off will also be sponsored by Blue Family Groups, so get ready for some family friendly activities, including field-day type.

Or, you can just sit back, relax, and enjoy live music from the ACDC Backyard Band, led by Commissioner of Revenue Ingrid Morroy, who pledges not to be assessing any taxes that day, which is, after all, a federal holiday.

Tickets are available at the Cook-Off or online. The cost is $35 for Individuals, $30 for Young Democrats, $125 for event sponsors and free for Gold Card members or kids under 15. Gold Cards will also be sold at the event (or buy yours online now!).

Please also take this opportunity to commit to your Democratic Values in Action by bringing new school supplies to be donated to the Arlington County Public Schools. More details are at http://www.facebook.com/DemocraticValuesInAction.

If you haven’t yet signed up to enter the chili contest or pie-eating competition, or if you would like to volunteer to help out, please contact Kim Klingler at HelloFromK2@gmail.com.
