VOTE ABSENTEE THIS YEAR!

The Arlington County Democratic Committee (ACDC) urges you to vote absentee this year.  Avoid long lines at the polls on Election Day!  Voting absentee saves you the time and hassle of long lines or last minute rushing to meet the 7 p.m. deadline, and ensures that your important vote counts.  All absentee ballots cast in Arlington are counted on Election Day.

  • Most voters can qualify to vote absentee under the Arlington Registrar's interpretation of Virginia's absentee voting requirements.
  • The easiest way to qualify?  Spending just 5-10 minutes outside of Arlington on Election Day qualifies you as "absent from the county" for personal or business purposes and allows you to cast an early, absentee ballot.
  • Go to www.arlingtonva.us/vote for important voting information, such as the extended hours for voting in-person absentee at the county offices, 2100 Clarendon Blvd., forms to use to request an absentee ballot by mail, the list of all reasons to vote absentee, and the location of your regular polling place.
  • The last day to vote in-person absentee is Saturday, Nov. 1, at 5 p.m.  The last day to apply for a mailed absentee ballot is Tuesday, October 28, at 5 p.m.  All mailed absentee ballots must be received by the Registrar by the time the polls close on Tuesday, November 4, at 7 p.m.
  • To arrange for a ride to the Voter Registrar's office to vote in-person absentee, please call ACDC HQ at 703-528-8588 and press 5.

VOTE FOR ALL OUR DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES!

ACDC urges you to vote for all of our Democratic Candidates:

Barack Obama and Joe Biden for President and Vice President;

Mark Warner for U.S. Senate;

Jim Moran for U.S. Congress;

Barbara Favola for Arlington County Board; and

Libby Garvey and Emma Violand-Sanchez for Arlington School Board.

VOTE YES ON ALL 2008 BOND REFERENDA!

Please join the Arlington County Board and the Arlington School Board in their unanimous support of the passage of these bond referenda, and vote YES on these bond issues. For more information, please visit www.arlingtondemocrats.org

VOTE NO ON REDEVELOPMENT & HOUSING AUTHORITY QUESTION!

Previously, housing authorities could access Federal funding, but the government no longer funds such programs. Thus, no new Federal money would be available to Arlington County if a housing authority were authorized. Instead, a housing authority would compete with existing non-profit providers for limited state and federal resources. Thus, a housing authority would possess no new tools to create affordable housing than those already in use. Creating a County housing authority would neither promote the goal of providing affordable housing nor otherwise benefit the County.

Therefore, ACDC advises Arlington voters to vote NO on the 2008 ballot question: "Is there a need for the redevelopment and housing authority to be activated in the County of Arlington?" For more information, please visit www.arlingtondemocrats.org
