Final Push: Can You Spare an Hour?
Thursday, November 1, 2007(ACDC)
Report from the Chairman
Peter Rousselot
We are coming down to the final push before Election
Day: November 6. A few Arlington Democrats have asked me: what’s the big deal
this year? Aren’t all our local candidates going to breeze to victory? Trust me:
no one in a contested race can count on breezing to victory unless they get the
same level of enthusiasm and support that would be there for them if their
supporters thought their election were at risk. And, that’s the level of support
our Arlington Democratic candidates always deserve from all of us. Why, you
might ask?
There are many reasons; take your pick:
- You should volunteer and vote Democratic in 2007
to send a message across the river to Bush, Cheney, and the Republicans. Our
message is this: Arlington Democrats are active, organized, and determined to
pile up decisive majorities no matter what the year and what the election. The
next Presidential and U.S. Senate elections in 2008 are just around the corner.
We are going to demonstrate again in 2007 that we have the organization, the
votes, and the skills to provide the decisive margin of victory in Virginia for
Mark Warner and our Democratic Presidential nominee in 2008 just like we did for
Jim Webb in 2006.
- Our Joint Campaign is supporting a terrific
group of Democratic candidates in Arlington this year. We are supporting them in
the spirit of one for all, and all for one. It is a great Arlington tradition
that carries over into how our Democratic elected officials govern us once in
office. The team spirit that we share in the final days of the 2007 campaign
will carry over in 2008 and beyond when tough governing choices have to be made.
Your help now will benefit us all later.
- You love campaigns and campaigning! That’s why you’re an Arlington Democrat!! There are loads of volunteer projects that can use your help: lit drops, telephoning, greeting voters at metros and on Election Day. Please join us!!!
The Joint Campaign can use your help NOW. If you want to volunteer to help the Joint Campaign, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Marj Signer, at ARLNOW@aol.com Each of the individual candidates supported by our Joint Campaign also has opportunities to help, and you can link up with any of those candidates by logging on to our website at www.arlingtondemocrats.org
Let me mention four strongly-contested races in which our Democratic candidates particularly can use your volunteer help now.
For the Arlington County Board, our Democratic candidates, Walter Tejada and Mary Hynes, would love to hear from you. Contact their campaign managers, Mike Lieberman and John Grant, respectively, at mikelieberman1@gmail.com and john.s.grant@gmail.com
For the Clerk of Court, our Democratic candidate, Paul Ferguson, faces a spirited challenge. To help Paul, please reach out to his campaign manager, Kevin Vincent, at kevin.vincent@bakerbotts.com
In the 45th House of Delegates District, our Democratic candidate, David Englin, is being challenged by a Republican, heavily bankrolled by right wing conservative groups. To help David, please contact his campaign manager, Shayna Englin, at shayna.englin@gmail.com
As we enter the final days of the 2007 Democratic campaign in Arlington, let’s all join together to ensure responsive, progressive, Democratic leadership at every level of government!
