Resolution Supporting 2010 Bond Issue Referenda
WHEREAS, Arlington County has kept its bond
indebtedness to levels that allow it to
maintain the highest level bond rating,
and
WHEREAS, Arlington County has the
opportunity to make capital improvements by
borrowing at historically low interest rates,
and
WHEREAS, the County Board has adopted a
new 6-year Capital Improvement Program which
addresses serious needs in our community,
and
WHEREAS, the County Board has placed
four referenda on the November 2010 election
ballot consistent with the 6-year Capital
Improvement Program, and
WHEREAS, both the
County Board and the School Board seek to
reconstruct Wakefield High School at this time
and recommend adoption of a school bond issue
of $102 million for this and other necessary
investments, and
WHEREAS, Arlington's share
of Metro system capital expenditures and other
transportation needs would be addressed by
issuing $34 million in bonds, and
WHEREAS,
other pressing Community Infrastructure needs
will be addressed by a proposed $18 million
bond issue, and
WHEREAS, Parks and
Recreation needs will be addressed by a $6
million bond issue including $2 million for
parkland acquisition.
THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED that the Arlington County Democratic
Committee supports these bond issues and calls
upon all Arlington voters to vote YES on these
bond issues in the November 2010 general
election.
