Resolution on Constitutional Amendments
WHEREAS, the General Assembly has proposed to
amend Article X Section 6 of the Virginia
Constitution to allow local jurisdictions to
set their own criteria for granting property
tax relief for homeowners over the age of 65 or
who are disabled, and
WHEREAS, this
flexibility is necessary for a targeted program
to benefit homeowners in need in Arlington,
and
WHEREAS, the General Assembly has
proposed to amend Article X of the Virginia
Constitution to provide property tax relief to
veterans who have been found to have a 100%
service-connected disability, and
WHEREAS,
the General Assembly has proposed to amend
Article X Section 8 of the Virginia
Constitution to increase the cap on the maximum
size of the budget stabilization “rainy day”
fund from 10% of average annual revenue
collections to 15% in order to provide a more
significant buffer against periods of economic
decline.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the
Arlington County Democratic Committee on August
4, 2010 supports the adoption of these three
Constitutional Amendments and urges voters to
vote “YES” on these questions in the November
2010 General Election.
