Resolution Celebrating the Life of John Robinson
WHEREAS, John Robinson, Jr. was a life-long
resident of Arlington County, Virginia,
educated in Arlington County Public Schools and
at Howard University, and
WHEREAS, John
Robinson, Jr. served with honor and distinction
in the United States Army, and
WHEREAS,
during the civil rights movement, John
Robinson, Jr. was a leader in movements that
resulted in the desegregation of many Arlington
institutions, and
WHEREAS, John Robinson,
Jr. founded Arlington's Martin Luther King, Jr.
Community Center and served as its director for
several decades, and
WHEREAS, John Robinson,
Jr. published the Green Valley News for several
decades as a community service, primarily to
the Nauck neighborhood, and
WHEREAS, John
Robinson, Jr. devoted his adult life to helping
the needy and securing social justice,
and
WHEREAS, John Robinson, Jr. served as an
important role model and inspired generations
of community activists, and
WHEREAS, John
Robinson, Jr. was an invaluable worker on
behalf of many Democratic candidates and
causes, and
WHEREAS, John Robinson, Jr.
passed away on July 17, 2010 at the age of
75.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the
Arlington County Democratic Committee on August
4, 2010, celebrates the life of John Robinson,
Jr., and his many contributions to Arlington
County, Virginia, and extends our condolences
to his family and friends.
