WHEREAS, Patsy Ticer was born in Washington, DC, graduated from George Washington High School in Alexandria, Virginia, attended Sweet Briar College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government, and returned to Alexandria,
WHEREAS,
Senator Ticer served
with distinction as the first female Mayor of
Alexandria from 1991 to 1996,
WHEREAS, in 1995, Senator Ticer helped the Democrats maintain their margin in the State Senate by giving up her Mayorship to run in a Senate district that included Southern Arlington,
WHEREAS,
Senator
Ticer is serving as Chair of the Senate
Agriculture, Conservation and Natural
Resources Committee, and as a member of the
Senate Committee on Local
Government, the Senate Committee on
Rehabilitation and Social Services, the Senate
Committee on Rules, and the
Senate Committee on Transportation,
WHEREAS, Senator Ticer has been a pioneering role model for women in elective politics and a champion of health and family care issues in the General Assembly,
WHEREAS,
Senator Ticer has served
as a valuable mentor to a number of Democrats
as they developed their careers
in public service,
WHEREAS, Senator Ticer served on the board of a number of organizations including Virginia's Transportation Coordinating Council, Northern Virginia Transportation Commission, the United Way, and Healthy Families Alexandria
WHEREAS,
Senator Ticer has
announced that her long career in elective
office will end at the conclusion of
her current term.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Arlington County Democratic Committee on March 2, 2011, that:
1.
ACDC congratulates and thanks Senator
Patsy Ticer for her
outstanding leadership and service to ACDC, the
Arlington community, and the
Commonwealth of Virginia, and especially to the
youth of our community.
2. ACDC sends its best wishes to Senator Ticer as she enjoys her retirement from the Virginia Senate and continues her lifetime of volunteering to make life better for the people of Northern Virginia.
