ACDC Adopts Four Resolutions
Wednesday, August 4, 2010
At its August 4 meeting, ACDC adopted four
resolutions.
One resolution called for
comprehensive immigration reform and condemned
Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli for
issuing a legal opinion that found that law
enforcement officers can check the immigration
status of anyone they stop for any reason.
Chair Mike Lieberman said, “Attorney General
Cuccinelli’s actions this week are an
unfortunate reminder that immigration issues
are far from resolved in this country. We are
blessed in Arlington to live in a tolerant and
open community. We will continue to work
tirelessly to make sure that all Virginia
residents, regardless of background, are
treated with the dignity and respect they
deserve.”
Another resolution endorsed
the four Arlington County bond referenda that
will appear on the November ballot. ACDC also
endorsed the three amendments to the Virginia
Constitution that are up for approval on the
November ballot. These amendments address
property tax relief for homeowners over 65 and
for disabled homeowners. Another Constitutional
amendment would raise the maximum size of
Virginia’s “rainy day” fund from 10% to 15% of
the state’s average tax
revenues.
Finally, ACDC adopted a
memorial resolution celebrating the life of
John Robinson.
