ENMIENDAS CONSTITUCIONALES

El Comité Demócrata del Condado de Arlington votó abrumadoramente el miércoles por la noche a favor de las tres enmiendas propuestas a la Constitución de Virginia que aparecerán en la boleta electoral del 3 de noviembre de 2026. Derecho a la libertad reproductiva
La enmienda propuesta protegería constitucionalmente las decisiones relacionadas con la atención del aborto, la anticoncepción, los tratamientos de fertilidad, el manejo del aborto espontáneo, la atención prenatal, la atención posparto y el parto. Garantizaría que las decisiones personales sobre la salud reproductiva recaigan en las pacientes y sus proveedores de atención médica.
Restablecimiento automático de derechos
La enmienda propuesta restablecería automáticamente el derecho al voto a los ciudadanos tras su liberación de prisión. Reemplazaría el sistema actual de Virginia, según el cual los virginianos afectados por el sistema judicial permanecen privados de su derecho al voto de forma permanente a menos que el gobernador lo restablezca individualmente, un poder cuyo ejercicio ha variado drásticamente de una administración a otra.
Igualdad matrimonial
La enmienda propuesta derogaría la Enmienda Marshall-Newman, la prohibición constitucional de Virginia sobre el matrimonio entre personas del mismo sexo, y garantizaría la igualdad de trato para todos los matrimonios legales entre dos adultos, independientemente de su sexo, género o raza. Si bien la prohibición actualmente no es aplicable, su lenguaje discriminatorio permanece en la constitución de Virginia y podría volverse aplicable si la Corte Suprema revisara su fallo de 2015 en el caso Obergefell contra Hodges.

Metro and Transportation
Shall Arlington County contract a debt and issue its general obligation bonds in the maximum principal amount of $69,745,000 to finance, together with other available funds, the cost of various capital projects for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and other transit, pedestrian, road or transportation projects?
Local Parks and Recreation
Shall Arlington County contract a debt and issue its general obligation bonds in the maximum principal amount of $34,945,000 to finance, together with other available funds, the cost of various capital projects for local parks & recreation?
Community Infrastructure
Shall Arlington County contract a debt and issue its general obligation bonds in the maximum principal amount of $58,825,000 to finance, together with other available funds, the cost of various capital projects, including but not limited to facilities maintenance capital, facilities design and construction, information technology, the Arlington Neighborhoods Program, and other County infrastructure?
Arlington Public Schools
Shall Arlington County contract a debt and issue its general obligation bonds in the maximum principal amount of $80,000,000 to finance, together with other available funds, the cost of various capital projects for Arlington Public Schools?
Utilities
Shall Arlington County contract a debt and issue its general obligation bonds in the maximum amount of $20,745,000 to finance, together with other available funds, the cost of designing, expanding, improving, and renovating Arlington County’s Water Pollution Control Plant and the water and sewer systems serving the County?
