Arlington Democrats Applaud Passage of Redistricting Amendment, Call it a Victory for Fairness and Transparency

Arlington, VA — Arlington Democrats today celebrated the passage of Virginia’s redistricting amendment, calling the outcome a clear statement from voters in support of fairness, transparency, and accountability in our elections process.

“What began as an effort to undermine fair representation nationally has been met with a decisive response here in Virginia,” said Arlington Democrats Deputy Chair Sarah Flourance. “Arlington voters made clear that attempts to sideline the will of voters will not stand. This amendment reinforces the principle that our elections should be open, transparent, and decided by the people.”

Arlington Democrats played a leading role in the campaign, launching early organizing efforts through its Redistricting Campaign Committee. Beginning in February, volunteers mobilized across the County, recruiting poll greeters, canvassing, and hosting events, to counter widespread disinformation and ensure voters had accurate information.

“As soon as this campaign began, Arlington stepped up,” said Zuraya Tapia-Hadley, Chair of the Redistricting Campaign Committee. “Our volunteers knocked doors, made calls, and engaged voters in every corner of the County. The result—overwhelming support for the amendment—reflects a community that believes deeply in fair elections and equal representation.”

Arlington voters delivered strong support for the amendment, with 80 percent voting in favor. 

Arlington Democrats also expressed gratitude to the Arlington County Office of Elections and the election officers and volunteers who ensured a smooth, secure, and accessible voting process for all. Their professionalism and commitment helped ensure that every voter was able to participate with confidence.
